526kg meth, heroin seized from Iranian boat in Indian waters; 5 Pakistanis held
New Delhi: Indian agencies have seized 526kg of methamphetamine and heroin from an Iranian boat in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and arrested five Pakistani nationals in a joint anti-drug operation, Union home minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday.
The operation involved the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Indian Coast Guard and central intelligence agencies. The boat was intercepted after a 16-day intelligence-led operation, Shah said in a post on X.
The vessel was seized about 160 nautical miles northwest of Lakshadweep and 490 nautical miles southwest of Mumbai, according to the home minister.

The operation, conducted between September 14 and 30, highlights coordination among multiple agencies in tracking and intercepting suspected maritime narcotics trafficking, Shah said.
Further investigation is underway to identify the wider network allegedly involved in the drug shipment and its intended recipients.
The seizure comes as the government implements its Vision Document on Drug Control (2026–2029), which lays out measures to strengthen enforcement, disrupt narcotics networks and protect young people from drug abuse.
Shah said the operation reflects the government’s resolve towards a “Nasha-Mukt Bharat” and its efforts to secure the country’s maritime borders against illicit activities.
