72,000 govt jobs, 1 lakh new jobs, ₹26,000 crore Bengaluru corridor: K’taka CM big announcements
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday unveiled a series of schemes focused on employment, agriculture, industrial investment and Bengaluru’s infrastructure as part of the state’s 80th Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, Shivakumar said the government has begun the process of filling 72,000 government posts, with notifications for vacancies expected over the next six months.
Under the proposed ‘Mukhyamantri Udyog Sankalpa’, the ‘Yuva Udyog Setu’ platform will connect job seekers, employers and educational institutions. As many as 100 government ITIs will be upgraded into employment-oriented campuses, with a target of providing jobs to 10,000 youth through industry partnerships.
The ‘Udyog Nidhi’ scheme will offer entrepreneurs in 10 backward districts an incentive of ₹2,500 per month for every new job created, with a target of generating one lakh jobs over two years.
For farmers, the ‘Mukhyamantri Raitha Chaitanya’ scheme will use drones and satellite imagery for crop surveys and provide real-time information on pests, diseases and markets. Under ‘Raitha Mitra’, farmers owning up to three acres will receive a 50% subsidy on agricultural machinery rental charges.
A manufacturing cluster planned at Doddaballapur with an investment commitment of ₹20,000 crore is expected to generate around one lakh jobs. Five global technology centres will also be established under ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ in Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru and Mysuru.
For Bengaluru, Shivakumar announced the ₹26,000-crore Bengaluru Business Corridor, featuring a 117-km ring road, along with ₹5,000 crore for major road projects. The city’s Metro network is expected to expand to 220 km after Phase III.
He also announced five new tree parks, development of seven major lakes and a proposal to divide Bengaluru’s police commissionerate into five commissionerates.
“I am not satisfied with the work already done. My goal is to shape the present according to the needs of the future,” Shivakumar said.
