Bengaluru: The Indian music world has lost a great talent with the demise of famous South Indian playback singer S. Janaki. She sang more than 48 thousand songs in more than 20 languages and won the hearts of crores of fans with her unique voice and soulful singing.
Janaki’s health had further deteriorated after the death of her son Murali Krishna in January this year. Now, dignitaries from the film and music industry have expressed deep condolences on her demise.
Born on April 23, 1938 in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, S. Janaki was recognized as the most popular playback singer in the Kannada film industry. Her clear Kannada pronunciation and soulful singing have earned a permanent place in the hearts of Kannadigas.

In the 70s and 80s, Dr. Many of the songs she sang with Rajkumar and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam are still popular today. Her singing was characterized by her rare talent of changing her voice to suit the character.
She was the recipient of many honors, including four National Film Awards, 33 State Film Awards, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, the Kalaimamani, an honorary doctorate, and the 2013 Padma Bhushan.
Janaki, who had been living in Mysore since 2008, spent her last days in Mysore. She gave her final public concert in 2018 and thereafter led a simple life without accepting any awards.
