Trump warns of fresh strikes if Iran resumes activity at nuclear sites

Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States is prepared to launch fresh military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities if intelligence agencies detect any suspicious activity at the country’s key nuclear sites.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the US is closely monitoring Iran’s nuclear infrastructure through advanced satellite and space-based surveillance systems. He claimed that Washington would respond immediately if there were signs of renewed nuclear activity.

“If we see even the slightest movement, we will take immediate action. Our surveillance systems are very advanced,” Trump said.

Referring to the Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site, Trump said it remains under constant surveillance, although he acknowledged that it is unclear whether any nuclear activity is currently taking place there.

The US President also claimed that satellite imagery had shown trucks, cranes and freshly poured concrete near the site, adding that Iran was believed to have used concrete to block access to certain entrances.

Trump further referred to the Taleghan nuclear facility, which he said had previously been targeted by the US, and warned that another strike could be carried out “within minutes” if circumstances warranted.

Recalling an earlier US military operation, Trump said B-2 stealth bombers had struck three Iranian nuclear sites during Operation Epic Fury on February 28, adding that Washington would not hesitate to act again if it viewed Iran’s actions as a threat.
