Congress Hails Supreme Court Verdict Invalidating M.K. Pranesh’s Election, Upholding Gayathri Shanthegowda’s MLC Seat
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict setting aside the election of M.K. Pranesh to the Karnataka Legislative Council and upholding the election of Gayathri Shanthegowda, describing the judgment as a victory for democracy, the people’s mandate and the rule of law.
Reacting to the verdict, KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad said the Supreme Court had delivered a clear message against attempts to distort the people’s mandate through the misuse of legal processes.

In a post on social media platform X, Hariprasad said the verdict reaffirmed that in a democracy, the will of the people is supreme and cannot be altered through political manoeuvring or by using the judiciary as a platform for political battles.
He said the judgment had once again reinforced public faith in the Constitution and the judiciary, calling it “a victory for democratic values, the people’s mandate and truth.”
Hariprasad also congratulated Gayathri Shanthegowda on her election to the Legislative Council, stating that she had remained steadfast throughout what he described as a just legal battle. He wished her success in public service and expressed confidence that the Supreme Court’s ruling would further strengthen people’s trust in India’s democratic institutions.
