Tumakuru: The Karnataka government has intensified Covid-19 surveillance along its border with Andhra Pradesh following reports of a rise in infections and Covid-related deaths in the neighbouring Anantapur district.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwara said health authorities have begun screening passengers at eight border check posts connecting Pavagada with Andhra Pradesh as a precautionary measure. Thermal screening is being carried out at checkpoints, including Nagalamadike, Kodamadugu and Vallur, while health officials and ASHA workers are recording travellers’ details.

Parameshwara said officials have been instructed to immediately isolate anyone showing Covid-like symptoms and ensure timely medical care.

The Health Department has also established a Covid Care Centre at Pavagada Taluk Hospital, equipped with beds and oxygen support, to handle any potential cases.

Separately, the Deputy Chief Minister said measures have been intensified to tackle the spread of dengue and chikungunya in Tumakuru district. Officials have been directed to clean water tanks that have not been maintained for years and strengthen efforts to prevent water contamination.

According to the Health Department, continuous monitoring has been underway at the Karnataka-Andhra border for the past two days, and no Covid-positive cases have been detected so far. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, follow health advisories and avoid panic.
