Congress stages protest in Bengaluru over Rahul Gandhi’s detention; workers taken into custody

Bengaluru: Congress workers staged a protest in Bengaluru on Tuesday against the detention of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Opposition leaders during a demonstration near the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.

The protesters also condemned the police action against students protesting over the alleged NEET question paper leak and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding the Centre responsible for the developments.

The demonstration was attended by several Congress leaders and party workers, including KPCC vice-presidents M. Narayanaswamy and V.S. Aaradhya, general secretaries S. Manohar and M. Ramachandrappa, and Karnataka Youth Congress president Manjunath, among others.

Police later detained several Congress leaders and workers during the protest before restoring normalcy in the area.
