IMD forecasts heavy showers in parts of Tamil Nadu; Chennai may get thunderstorms
Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in six Tamil Nadu districts on Monday as an upper-air cyclonic circulation continues to influence weather across the state. Nilgiris, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and the ghat areas of Coimbatore are likely to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph.
The weather system, extending from interior Karnataka to the Comorin Sea, is also expected to bring moderate rainfall to the Western Ghats, Cauvery delta and northern coastal districts. Chennai is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with moderate rain and thunderstorms during the evening or night.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Kerala remained on high alert as relentless monsoon rains pushed the death toll to 12, triggering floods, waterlogging and landslides. Educational institutions have been closed in nine districts, while the IMD has issued a yellow alert across all 14 districts, warning of isolated heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours
