Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have launched ‘Operation Mukt’, a special drive to identify and verify suspected illegal immigrants living in the city. The operation has intensified in Whitefield, where police teams led by Whitefield Sub-Division ACP Reena Suvarna are conducting searches and checking identity and immigration documents.

The drive is being carried out under the direction of Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, with more than 500 police personnel and officers involved across the city.

ACP Reena Suvarna warns against sheltering Bangladeshis illegally

Police teams have conducted verification drives in Whitefield, Kadugodi, Mahadevapura and surrounding areas. More than 30 locations under various police stations have reportedly been checked.

ACP Reena Suvarna said police have found instances where temporary sheds and other accommodation were allegedly provided to migrant workers without proper verification. She warned property owners and locals against providing shelter to Bangladeshi nationals or any foreign nationals without valid documents and permission to stay in India.

Police are particularly checking the documents of suspected Bangladeshi nationals and other foreign nationals during the drive. Those found without valid documents or legal permission will be referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further action.

Suspected illegal immigrants face legal action

DCP Saidulu Adawat said several suspected illegal immigrants have already been identified and some have been deported following due legal procedures.

Authorities said further deportation action will be taken after obtaining orders from the competent authorities. The verification drive is expected to continue in other parts of Bengaluru as police intensify efforts to identify foreigners staying in the city without valid documentation.
