Bengaluru: More than 2.41 lakh voters in Karnataka have been cleared from the absent, permanently displaced, deceased, fake and other (ASDDO) category following house-to-house verification under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, State Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbu Kumar said.

The Election Commission has extended the house-to-house verification exercise, which began on June 30, until August 17. Of the 5.54 crore voters listed in the electoral roll as of June 16, around 4.45 crore, or 80.38%, have submitted their count forms. Their names will remain in the draft electoral roll, the CEO said.

As many as 1,08,75,304 voters have been placed in the ASDDO category. This includes 15,48,757 voters classified as absent, 65,73,976 as permanently displaced and 16,36,673 as deceased. Another 7,01,412 voters were found to be registered elsewhere, while 4,14,486 fall under other categories.

The ASDDO list was published on August 3 and shared with political parties. Following the verification process, 2,41,082 voters have so far been removed from the category and included in the electoral roll. In addition, 80,492 people who had earlier declined to sign their count forms have now completed and submitted them.

The ASDDO list will undergo another revision on August 15, while the SIR exercise is scheduled to conclude on August 17.

Meanwhile, Karnataka has decided to establish 1,848 additional polling booths across the state. Each booth will have a maximum limit of 1,200 voters.
