Lucknow: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Tuesday described Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as the “foundational pillars” of the world’s largest democracy during an interaction with BLOs in Lucknow.
More than 500 BLOs and 30 BLO Supervisors from across Uttar Pradesh participated in the meeting. Kumar said electoral rolls and elections are conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution, laws and Election Commission of India (ECI) instructions.
Kumar said BLOs are the first interface between the ECI and citizens and play a crucial role in ensuring trust and transparency in the electoral process.
Following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh in April, more than 13.39 crore electors were included in the final electoral roll.
The exercise was carried out by around 1.77 lakh BLOs, with concurrent verification by more than 5.82 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties.
During the interaction, BLOs also participated in a question-and-answer session with the CEC and sought clarifications on issues related to their work.
