Modi–Shah Strategy Sweeps Bengal; Mamata Banerjee Suffers Major Setback

Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scripted a historic victory in West Bengal, riding on the strategy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The party secured a commanding majority, ending the rule of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The BJP won a massive 206 seats in the 293-member Assembly, comfortably crossing the majority mark and registering a “double century.” In contrast, the TMC was reduced to just 81 seats, marking a significant decline in its political dominance.
In a major personal setback, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost from her home constituency Bhabanipur to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, dealing a severe blow to the party’s morale.

Political observers attribute the BJP’s sweeping win to its well-planned grassroots campaign, aggressive outreach, and strong central leadership. Anti-incumbency against the TMC government is also believed to have played a crucial role in the outcome.

Final Seat Tally:

  • BJP: 206
  • TMC (AITC): 81
  • Indian National Congress: 2
  • AJUP: 2
  • Communist Party of India (Marxist): 1
