BENGALURU: Customers with bank-related work may want to plan their branch visits in advance in September, with several bank holidays lined up across the month due to festivals, regional occasions and regular weekly offs.

According to the holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), bank holidays will vary across states and cities and will apply to both public and private sector bank branches.

Which days will banks remain closed?

Banks across the country will remain closed on September 12, the second Saturday, and September 26, the fourth Saturday. Sundays will also be regular holidays.

In addition, banks in select cities will observe a holiday on September 4 on account of Krishna Janmashtami.

On September 14, bank branches in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and several other cities will remain closed for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Regional holidays will also be observed on September 15 for Samvatsari / Nuakhai, September 21 for Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti, September 22 for Karma Puja and September 23 for the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh in the respective states.

As bank holidays are location-specific, customers should check the applicable RBI holiday calendar for their city before planning a branch visit.

While branches will remain closed on applicable holidays, digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs will generally remain operational. Customers can therefore carry out most routine financial transactions online.

However, services requiring a physical branch visit, including certain cheque-clearance processes, cash transactions and account-related documentation, may be affected.

Customers are advised to complete such work in advance and factor in the holiday schedule while planning their bank visits.
