Bengaluru: Karnataka Legislative Council member and BJP leader C.T. Ravi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, alleging that the drug trade has spread across the state and that a network involving students as drug peddlers is now emerging.
In a post on X, Ravi said drug dealers earlier targeted students to sell narcotics, but the situation had now allegedly reached a stage where students themselves were being used to distribute drugs.
Targeting Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Ravi claimed that drug sales had increased sixfold during the Congress government’s tenure and questioned why the issue was not highlighted among the government’s achievements in its publicity campaigns.
‘Is there an invisible hand behind drug network?’
Ravi questioned why the police department had failed to act if school and college students were being drawn into drug peddling.
“Is the police department like a toothless snake? Or is there an invisible hand of the ruling class behind the drug trade?” he asked.
He accused the government of putting the state’s youth at risk by allowing the drug network to expand and warned that increasing drug addiction could have serious consequences for young people.
Ravi demanded that the government immediately constitute a special force to crack down on the drug network and take stringent action against those involved.
“If the government cannot take action, the Home Minister should resign and sit at home and tweet,” Ravi said, taking a swipe at Priyank Kharge.
The allegations come amid the political tussle between the ruling Congress and opposition BJP over the government’s handling of drug-related offences and the safety of students and young people in the state.\
