BENGALURU: Actor and former MP Ramya has refused to withdraw a case filed over allegedly abusive and obscene messages posted against her on social media, despite the accused and their family members seeking her forgiveness during a hearing at the 46th City Civil Court in Bengaluru.
According to reports, the accused, who are said to be supporters of actor Darshan, broke down and apologised to Ramya at the court premises. They reportedly fell at her feet and pleaded with her to forgive them and withdraw the case. However, Ramya remained firm on her decision and declined to accept their apology.
‘I will not withdraw case’
Ramya is learnt to have questioned whether people can make obscene or abusive comments against anyone simply because they have access to a mobile phone and the internet.
She reportedly said she would continue her legal battle against online trolling and cyber abuse and would appear before the court whenever required to give evidence.
The actor also maintained that there was no question of forgiving the accused, stressing that the case should serve as a lesson to others who post abusive comments against women on social media.
CCB filed chargesheet
Ramya had approached the Central Crime Branch (CCB) after allegedly receiving highly abusive and obscene messages on social media. Following her complaint, CCB police registered a case and arrested several people in connection with the alleged abuse.The police have since filed a chargesheet before the court, and proceedings in the case are continuing.
Ramya has maintained that she wants the legal process to continue and that the incident should discourage people from posting derogatory or abusive remarks against women online.
