Asian Games 2026: Mirabai Chanu on podium; Roshibina Devi seals medal in wushu
Nagoya: India wrapped up another eventful day at the Asian Games 2026 with a string of medals and assured podium finishes, led by Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event.
Chanu delivered a strong performance to secure silver, adding to India’s medal tally and providing one of the day’s biggest highlights. The Olympic medallist’s performance came alongside bronze medals for India in skeet shooting, soft tennis and badminton.
The day also brought a guaranteed medal upgrade in wushu, with Roshibina Devi advancing to the final, assuring India at least a silver medal. Her progress kept India in contention for another gold as the competition enters its next phase.
India also endured a few narrow misses during the day, with several athletes falling just short of podium finishes.

PM Modi congratulates Mirabai Chanu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mirabai Chanu on winning silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office said: “Her determination and consistency continue to inspire the nation. India is proud of her.”
Modi also extended his best wishes to Chanu for her future endeavours.
With medals across weightlifting, shooting, soft tennis and badminton, along with Roshibina Devi’s assured silver, India ended Day 5 with another productive outing at the Asian Games.
