New Delhi: BJP leader Nitin Nabin has criticised opposition parties over their campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that voters are being given misleading information about the exercise.
In a post on X, Nabin referred to the Election Commission’s clarification that the SIR-related decisions were approved unanimously by all members of the poll panel.
He accused the Congress and other opposition parties of questioning the functioning of constitutional institutions when election results do not favour them. According to Nabin, the credibility of the electoral process should not be viewed differently depending on the outcome of an election.
Nabin also referred to elections won by the Congress and its allies in states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu, arguing that the same electoral system and institutions were accepted when the results went in their favour.
He said disagreement with the Election Commission is legitimate in a democracy, but allegations concerning the electoral process should be supported by documents and verifiable evidence.

The BJP leader maintained that electoral victories and defeats are an integral part of democratic politics and urged political parties to respect the role of constitutional institutions irrespective of the election outcome.
Nabin further alleged that the ongoing campaign over SIR could create confusion among the public. He called upon those who had raised allegations against the Election Commission to place their evidence in the public domain and explain their position.
