New Delhi: The Centre has approved the procurement of more than 1.67 lakh metric tonnes of key crops from Karnataka under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the 2026-27 Kharif season, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said.
According to Joshi, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) following requests from him and the Karnataka government.
Under the approved procurement plan, a total of 1,67,163 metric tonnes of crops will be purchased from farmers in the state at MSP.
The approved quantities include 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower, 38,250 metric tonnes of moong (green gram) and 1,15,500 metric tonnes of soybean.
Joshi said the decision was aimed at ensuring that farmers receive a fair and remunerative price for their produce and protecting their interests during the Kharif marketing season.
The Union minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on behalf of Karnataka’s farming community for responding to the state’s request and approving the procurement.
The procurement under the PSS is expected to provide price support to farmers growing the three crops and help ensure that their produce is purchased at the notified MSP.
Joshi said the Centre’s decision reflects its focus on safeguarding the interests of Karnataka’s farmers and providing them with greater price assurance for their Kharif produce.
