Ramalinga Reddy proposes posthumous ‘Karnataka Ratna’ for actor Ambarish
Bengaluru: Forest, Environment and Ecology Minister Ramalinga Reddy has proposed that late actor and politician Dr Ambarish be conferred the ‘Karnataka Ratna’ award posthumously during the upcoming Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations.
In a social media post, Reddy said Ambarish, popularly known as the ‘Rebel Star’ and ‘Mandya da Gandu’, had made significant contributions to Kannada cinema, Karnataka, the Kannada language and public life.
Reddy said Ambarish had remained closely connected with the people and had responded to their concerns during his public life. He also highlighted the late actor’s contributions to art and politics.

Citing the wishes of Ambarish’s fans and his enduring popularity, Reddy said he had submitted a proposal to the government seeking the posthumous honour during the upcoming Rajyotsava celebrations.
Reddy said conferring the state’s highest civilian honour on Ambarish would also be a recognition of his contribution to Karnataka and its people.
