Opposition seeks CEC’s resignation, suspension of SIR and return to paper ballots
New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday said President Droupadi Murmu had asked an INDIA bloc delegation to submit evidence supporting its allegations of “vote chori” (vote theft).
The 10-member delegation, led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, submitted a memorandum at Rashtrapati Bhavan seeking Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and a return to paper ballots.
The delegation included Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule and other Opposition leaders.

The memorandum alleged that elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal had been “stolen”, accusing authorities of manipulating electronic voting machines (EVMs) and electoral rolls.
Speaking after the meeting, Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar were conspiring to undermine Indian democracy.
He said the President had asked the delegation to provide evidence backing its allegations. “We will submit the evidence to her whenever she is available,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi also announced that the Opposition planned to approach the Supreme Court on October 12 with a memorandum addressed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The allegations remain claims made by the Opposition.
