Mysuru Dasara: Elephant Prashantha to Carry Golden Howdah During Jamboo Savari
Mysuru: Elephant Prashantha is set to carry the golden howdah during the Jamboo Savari, the grand Vijayadashami procession that marks the culmination of Mysuru Dasara celebrations.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted the significance of the tradition in a social media post, stating that carrying the approximately 750-kg golden howdah, which houses the processional idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, is not merely a test of physical strength but a responsibility to uphold Karnataka’s cultural heritage.
Over the years, elephants including Drona, Balarama, Arjuna and Abhimanyu have carried the golden howdah during the procession. Prashantha is now set to join the illustrious tradition.

The Jamboo Savari is one of the major attractions of Mysuru Dasara, drawing large crowds to witness the decorated elephant carrying the deity through the city.
Shivakumar said the procession represents Karnataka’s cultural identity, heritage and pride. He also expressed hope that people would participate in the celebrations and witness the historic occasion.
The majestic presence of Prashantha, alongside the splendour of the golden howdah, is expected to add to the festive atmosphere during the Vijayadashami procession.
Shivakumar said the elephant’s majestic gait symbolises hopes for the state’s well-being and prosperity, inviting people to be part of the grand Dasara celebrations.
