New Delhi: The Centre has approved ₹30 crore for the development of 15 Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFVs) in Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), with ₹15 crore already released for implementation, the government informed Parliament on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Fisheries said the PMMSY, launched in 2020-21, provides for the development of Integrated Modern Coastal Villages at a unit cost of ₹7.5 crore to improve livelihoods, strengthen fisheries infrastructure and promote sustainable development in coastal communities. However, the Andhra Pradesh government has not availed this particular component of the scheme.
The Ministry said it has instead identified 15 fishing villages in Andhra Pradesh, including Sorlagondhi and Gullalamodha in Krishna district, for development under the Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages initiative. The project is fully funded by the Centre with a unit cost of ₹2 crore per village.
The approved interventions include the construction of fish-drying platforms, solar fish-drying units, multipurpose fisheries centres, common fish markets, high-mast solar lights and jetty extensions to improve fish landing and post-harvest infrastructure.
The programme also includes livelihood and climate-resilient measures such as seaweed cultivation, sea-cage farming, GPS navigation devices, life-saving equipment, ice boxes and other productivity-enhancing assets aimed at improving the income and safety of fishing communities.
The Ministry added that the PMMSY has been extended until September 30, 2026, to facilitate the completion of ongoing projects and further strengthen the fisheries sector across the country.
