New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted an illegal drug manufacturing unit in Satara district, Maharashtra, seizing large quantities of psychotropic substances and arresting two persons in a crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI officers raided the facility on August 1, where Alprazolam and Diazepam—both regulated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985—were allegedly being manufactured for illegal distribution.
During the search, officials recovered around 1 kg of finished Alprazolam, more than 15 kg of Alprazolam in intermediary form, about 3.75 kg of Diazepam, and nearly 400 litres of raw materials and reaction mixtures used in the manufacturing process. The entire consignment was seized under the NDPS Act.
In a follow-up operation, DRI officers arrested the alleged buyer from Pune and uncovered evidence pointing to the planned trafficking of the seized psychotropic substances.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accused had been involved in the illegal manufacture and trafficking of drugs on earlier occasions as well. Both have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.
