New Delhi: The Centre on Monday said Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-based ride-hailing platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, is being expanded across the country in a phased manner, with services currently available in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said the platform follows a driver-owned cooperative model and comprises the Sarathi (driver) application, passenger application, and a backend management system aimed at providing transparent and efficient mobility services.
According to the government, 7.76 lakh Sarathis (drivers) and 40.84 lakh customers have already registered on the platform.
The Minister said the expansion of Bharat Taxi to additional cities and states will depend on factors such as operational preparedness, driver availability, completion of statutory requirements and coordination with state governments, cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.
Before launching services in a new state, Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited consults the concerned state departments, including the Transport Department, Urban Local Bodies and the Department of Cooperation. The cooperative also obtains all necessary licences, registrations and regulatory approvals before commencing operations.
As part of the rollout process, the organisation undertakes driver onboarding, customer registration, document verification and training, besides conducting public awareness campaigns through its official social media platforms and outreach programmes in coordination with local authorities.
The government said Bharat Taxi’s expansion will continue in accordance with its overall implementation plan while ensuring compliance with all legal and administrative requirements.
