Duniya Vijay-Nagarathna Marriage Ends: Karnataka HC Grants Divorce, Orders ₹2 Crore Alimony
Bengaluru: The marriage between Kannada actor and director Duniya Vijay and Nagarathna has officially come to an end, with the Karnataka High Court granting them divorce on Thursday.
A division bench comprising Justice D.K. Singh and Justice H. Shantibhushan passed the order. Considering Nagarathna and the couple’s three children, the court has reportedly directed Vijay to pay ₹2 crore as alimony, taking into account his status and financial position.

Soon after the court’s order, Duniya Vijay shared a post on Facebook, saying he respectfully accepted the verdict and reaffirmed his faith in the judiciary.
Vijay said he had decided not to speak about the divorce in the media or in public. He said his daughters are adults and have established their own identities in society, and he did not want the matter to cause them any embarrassment.
“Keeping the future and well-being of my children in mind, I have accepted the court’s order regarding my personal family matter with a clear conscience. I am now taking a step towards a new phase of life,” Vijay said in his post.
He also thanked his lawyers, senior counsel Srivatsa and Yukta Anil, for representing him in the case.
Six-year legal battle
Vijay and Nagarathna had first filed for divorce in 2013. However, following mediation in 2014, they withdrew the petition and continued their marriage.
In 2018, Vijay once again approached the family court seeking divorce. After nearly six years of proceedings, the Bengaluru family court dismissed his divorce petition in June 2024.
Vijay challenged the family court’s decision before the Karnataka High Court. The High Court has now allowed his appeal and granted divorce, bringing an end to the couple’s long-running legal battle.

Vijay and Nagarathna have three children — daughters Monisha and Monica, and son Samrat.
