Heavy rain alert in Karnataka: Coastal districts, Bengaluru among areas likely to receive showers

Bengaluru: With the southwest monsoon remaining active over Karnataka, several parts of the state are likely to receive rain over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy showers in coastal Karnataka and parts of Malnad.

On August 24, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph. Shivamogga is also likely to receive heavy rain, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph. Heavy showers are forecast in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu as well.

Moderate rain is expected in Tumakuru and Mandya, while several parts of Bengaluru city and rural areas, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Davangere, Ballari and Vijayanagara may also receive rain.

Several north Karnataka districts, including Dharwad, Gadag, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Raichur and Kalaburagi, may receive moderate to heavy rain, with winds reaching 40-50 kmph. Haveri, Koppal, Belagavi, Bidar and Yadgir may also experience rain accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph.

On August 25, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu are also expected to continue receiving heavy showers.

The IMD said moderate rain is likely across several parts of north and south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
