Mysuru : Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on home minister Priyank Kharge, accusing him of failing to address law and order issues and calling him the “most corrupt person”.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Narayanaswamy alleged that atrocities against Dalits were taking place in Kalyana Karnataka, but claimed that the home minister had not issued a statement on the issue.
“What kind of home minister do we need if he does not speak about such issues? Priyank Kharge should resign and step down,” he said.
Narayanaswamy also alleged widespread corruption across various departments of the state government and accused the Congress government of misusing funds earmarked under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).
Targeting Kharge over his statements on the RSS, Narayanaswamy said the home minister should focus on law and order instead of repeatedly speaking about the organisation.
“Why are you looking at someone else’s shorts? Look at your own,” Narayanaswamy said, questioning the government’s focus on the RSS.
He further claimed that the home minister had himself stated that there were no criminal cases against RSS members, and questioned why the government was still focusing on the organisation instead of addressing issues concerning the state’s law and order situation.
Narayanaswamy also alleged that Kharge had shown little concern for the welfare and safety of Dalits. He claimed that 13 cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act had been registered in the home minister’s constituency and demanded accountability from the government.
