New Delhi: Indian Navy guided missile frigate INS Trishul made a port call at Alexandria, Egypt, from September 14 to 17 as part of its ongoing deployment, strengthening maritime engagement between the two countries.
The warship received a warm welcome on arrival at Alexandria Harbour, with Egyptian Navy ship Al Qadeer escorting INS Trishul into the port.
During the visit, the commanding officer and crew of INS Trishul paid homage at the Chatby War Memorial, which commemorates personnel who lost their lives during the two World Wars. The memorial has 12 burials and carries the names of 19 Indian soldiers who died aboard ships sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean.
India’s ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K Reddy, also visited INS Trishul and interacted with the crew. He underlined the importance of the Indian Navy’s presence in the region, according to the defence ministry.
As part of the engagement, INS Trishul conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Egyptian Navy ship ENS Bernees.
The exercise featured coordinated manoeuvring drills, communication exercises and approaches for replenishment at sea. The drills provided personnel from both navies an opportunity to exchange operational expertise and improve interoperability.
The port call and joint exercise are aimed at further strengthening the longstanding maritime relationship between the Indian and Egyptian navies and enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the maritime domain.
