Karnataka BJP calls GBA’s ‘Guarantee Service Centre’ a new ‘extortion centre’
Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka has criticised the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s (GBA) proposed ‘Guarantee Service Centres’, alleging that they could become a new “extortion centre” for the Congress.
In a post on X, Ashoka questioned the need for separate centres when services such as trade licences, e-Khata and birth and death certificates are already available through Bengaluru One and other existing channels.
He said the proposed centres, which are expected to deliver services within 48 to 72 hours, could result in citizens being charged additional fees for faster processing.
Ashoka argued that government offices should provide certificates and other services within the stipulated timeframe without creating separate collection centres or imposing extra charges.

He urged Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to drop the proposal and instead direct GBA offices to complete public services within 48 to 72 hours.
According to Ashoka, improving existing government systems would be more appropriate than establishing new centres for services that citizens already expect to receive within a reasonable timeframe.
