Bengaluru: Karnataka’s food safety teams inspected 80 sweet manufacturing units and shops across the state on Wednesday as part of a drive to ensure food safety during the festive season, Health Minister U.T. Khader said.

In a statement, Khader said 125 samples had been collected and sent to government food laboratories for testing. Notices were issued to 10 units for alleged violations, including unhygienic kitchen conditions, staff lacking medical fitness certificates and operating without valid licences from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The minister said legal action would be initiated wherever violations were established under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Khader said the inspections would continue throughout the festive season and warned that those found selling unsafe food would be held accountable.

Emphasising that festivals bring sweets into households across the state, he said every family deserved access to safe food. The government’s priority was to protect public health and prevent food adulteration, he added.

The minister also urged citizens to report suspected food adulteration and unhygienic practices through the QR code shared earlier by the department. He assured that every complaint received would be investigated.

The drive is aimed at strengthening food safety monitoring and ensuring that sweets and other food products sold during the festive season meet prescribed safety and hygiene standards.
