NEW DELHI: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has again submitted his resignation to party president Nitin Nabin, citing pressing financial and personal circumstances.

Poonawalla had first offered to quit all party posts and primary membership on July 30, but the BJP had asked him to reconsider and did not accept his resignation.

In his latest post on social media platform X, Poonawalla said he had made a final decision after careful consideration and requested that his resignation be accepted. He also sought to step down as national spokesperson and from active primary membership of the party.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nitin Nabin, Amit Shah, J P Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, B L Santhosh and other senior leaders, along with the wider Sangh Parivar, for their guidance and support.

Poonawalla said he would move to the private sector because of his financial and personal circumstances. However, he maintained that his support for the BJP and the vision of “Viksit Bharat” would continue.

He also said recent developments involving certain individuals had strengthened his resolve to leave the party organisation.

Reflecting on his political journey, Poonawalla said the BJP had provided him opportunities as a young, Pasmanda Muslim and non-dynastic leader.

While announcing his departure, he stressed that his ideological commitment would remain unchanged. “I am only leaving the Vyavastha, not the Vyakti or Vichar,” he said.

Poonawalla added that he would continue to support the vision of a developed India in whatever capacity possible.
