New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 80th Independence Day address from the Red Fort, unveiled the ‘Sapta Dhar’ (seven streams) vision, identifying seven key areas that he said would drive India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Drawing an analogy with the historical ‘Sapta Sindhu’, Modi said the next five to seven years would be crucial for India and called for the full utilisation of the country’s youth power.
The first stream is manufacturing, with India aiming to build complete domestic value chains and achieve global standards in cost, quality and scale. He called for zero-defect and precision manufacturing, particularly among MSMEs.
The second is agriculture and food production, with farmers being encouraged to tap global export markets. The third focuses on technology and innovation, including AI, quantum computing, space, robotics and data centres.
The fourth stream is speed and connectivity, covering high-speed rail, highways, waterways, airports and multimodal logistics.
The fifth is defence strength, with emphasis on indigenous capabilities in drones, counter-drone systems, hypersonic technologies and cybersecurity.
The sixth stream combines the green and blue economy, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy storage, fisheries, coastal tourism and marine technologies.
The seventh is India’s soft power, with Yoga, Ayurveda, culture, crafts, cinema, VFX, animation, gaming and digital content identified as areas for global expansion.
Modi said the combined strength of these seven streams would help build a stronger, self-reliant and Viksit Bharat.
