Rain, lightning and strong winds: Karnataka districts on alert as monsoon intensifies
Bengaluru: Several parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting increased monsoon activity over the southern interior region.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a Yellow Alert for October 1, warning of isolated heavy rainfall in coastal and southern interior districts.
Heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely in parts of Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Tumakuru. Gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also expected in some areas.
In coastal Karnataka, isolated heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, while parts of Uttara Kannada may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely across several areas of Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara and Vijayanagara districts.
Parts of Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Koppal may also receive moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Meanwhile, mainly dry conditions are expected to continue in Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir districts.
The weather department has advised residents in areas experiencing thunderstorms and gusty winds to exercise caution, particularly during lightning activity.
