Kyiv: At least 12 people, including an Indian citizen, were killed and dozens injured in a wave of Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said rescue and recovery operations had been underway since the previous night, with nearly 350 first responders deployed in Kyiv and the surrounding region alone.
He said the attacks involved a significant number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
In Boryspil, a five-storey residential building was damaged and 50 people were evacuated. Four people were killed and 13 injured in the city, according to Zelenskyy.
Railway depot strike kills 7 in Kyiv
Zelenskyy said a Russian strike on a railway depot in Kyiv killed seven people. Several other regions, including Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro, also came under attack.
In Odesa and the surrounding region, guided aerial bomb and drone strikes continued from the previous evening, leaving thousands of families without electricity. Zelenskyy said efforts were underway to restore power.
A border crossing with Romania and export infrastructure were also deliberately damaged, he said.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of planning its strikes to cause maximum destruction and said the number of casualties depended directly on Ukraine’s ability to strengthen its air defence.
He thanked countries supporting Ukraine with anti-ballistic defence capabilities through PURL and bilateral supplies, stressing that such deliveries should increase during the autumn.
“The number of victims of Russian terror directly hinges on every new package of assistance,” Zelenskyy said, while expressing condolences to those who lost family members in the attacks.
