New Delhi: Tennis stars Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi have been elected to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Executive Committee after being chosen as Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) representatives to its General Body.
Sania said the representatives would use their experience to understand players’ needs and work towards improving Indian tennis.
“We are very happy to be elected to the General Body. Our vision and goal is to make Indian tennis better,” she said.
Bhupathi expressed optimism that their presence in the Executive Committee would help accelerate structural changes in the sport’s administration.
Other elected SOM representatives, Ashutosh Singh and Shalini Thakur Chawla, also pledged to contribute towards strengthening Indian tennis.
