Aizawl: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday inaugurated five development projects worth ₹102 crore and laid foundation stones for five projects costing ₹228.54 crore in Mizoram.
The projects cover road connectivity, power transmission, water supply, healthcare, education, sports and cultural infrastructure. Scindia, who is on a two-day visit to the state, attended the programme in the presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma and other dignitaries.
Describing the Northeast as an emerging engine of India’s growth, Scindia said development should expand economic opportunities while preserving Mizoram’s cultural identity and natural heritage. He said the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) had been allocated ₹6,812.30 crore for the Northeast in 2026–27.
Among the projects inaugurated were the ₹54.95-crore Bairabi–West Phaileng transmission line, the ₹20.50-crore North Vanlaiphai water supply augmentation scheme, the ₹17.24-crore Daido–Vangkawt road, an AYUSH Development Centre costing ₹2.64 crore and the ₹6.90-crore Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music.

Scindia also highlighted the 51.38-km Bairabi–Sairang railway line, saying it had strengthened Mizoram’s links with major economic centres. He noted that the state recorded 4,94,362 domestic tourist visits and 7,389 foreign tourist visits in the first half of 2026.
The minister highlighted the ₹189.79-crore Mizoram Ginger Mission, which aims to connect nearly 20,000 farming households with cultivation, processing, branding and wider markets.
He said development must benefit farmers, entrepreneurs and young people through improved market access, healthcare, education, cultural opportunities and sports facilities.
Scindia also said 375 projects worth ₹4,617.70 crore had been taken up in Mizoram, of which 295 projects worth ₹2,692.31 crore had been completed.
Invoking Mizoram’s tradition of Hnatlang, or collective community work, he called for coordinated efforts by the Centre, state government and local communities to ensure inclusive and sustainable development.
