Mandya: Mandya district in-charge and Water Resources Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Friday warned officials against delaying public works, saying government machinery must use its authority and opportunities to serve people.
“People have given me the responsibility of being in office. I have dedicated that responsibility to their service. I want people’s work to be completed,” Cheluvarayaswamy said while laying the foundation stone for a Maulana Azad Model School and a post-matric girls’ hostel for minorities at Umar Nagar near Bellur.
He said he would not tolerate delays in works meant for the public and directed officials to take up pending projects without further delay.
Rs 10 crore works launched
The minister said various development works worth around Rs 10 crore had been launched in Bellur village and assured that more projects would be brought to the area.
He also said a long-pending demand for a fair price ration shop would be addressed soon.
Cheluvarayaswamy said people of the Bellur region had supported him in his political journey and that he owed them a responsibility to work for their development.
He also assured beneficiaries that the Congress government’s guarantee schemes would not be discontinued and said steps would be taken to provide other facilities required by people.
Officials pulled up over Ambedkar Bhavan delay
The minister pulled up Land Army department officials over the delay in starting construction of an Ambedkar Bhavan, which, according to him, had not commenced even a year after the project was approved.
“Why has the work not started for a year? Does it take so long to change the plan and design? If you are willing to work, do it; otherwise, make way. Start the work immediately,” he told the officials.
Later, Cheluvarayaswamy laid the foundation stones for construction of a residential school building of the Backward Classes Welfare Department near Devihalli Gate and road work at Yeraganahalli.
DCC Bank director Dinesh, taluk guarantee schemes committee president Moodalappa, Dalit leader Shivanna, Jamia Masjid president Sulaiman, leaders Yaseen and district minority welfare officer Madhushree were among those present.
