Yadgir industrial waste row: K’taka Minister Ramalinga Reddy orders action against polluting units, suspension of official
Bengaluru: Karnataka Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to take immediate action following reports of untreated industrial wastewater from the Kadechur-Badiyal industrial area in Yadgir district allegedly flowing into the Bhima river.
Reddy instructed KSPCB Member Secretary R Gokul to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and ensure immediate inspection of industries in the area.
The minister said discharge of untreated industrial effluents into rivers and water bodies could pollute water resources and pose risks to people, livestock, agriculture and the environment.
Officials have been directed to inspect the concerned industrial units and collect samples of discharged wastewater for scientific testing. Industries found violating pollution-control norms will face strict legal action, the minister said.
Reddy also ordered that the official responsible for alleged negligence be suspended immediately and that an inquiry be conducted into the matter. The KSPCB has been asked to submit a report detailing the action taken.
The minister further directed the pollution control authorities to strengthen monitoring and introduce necessary preventive measures to ensure that untreated industrial waste is not discharged into water bodies in the future.
The directions came after media reports highlighted concerns over industrial pollution in the Kadechur-Badiyal industrial area and its alleged impact on the Bhima river.
