Bengaluru: Karnataka politics witnessed a major twist on Thursday after senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah reportedly indicated that he would step down as Chief Minister, triggering intense speculation over a leadership transition in the state.
Amid growing political buzz, Siddaramaiah held a lunch meeting with Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar at the CM’s official residence ‘Kaveri’ in Bengaluru.
The meeting, held against the backdrop of prolonged discussions over a power-sharing arrangement within the ruling Indian National Congress, has fuelled speculation that Shivakumar could be the frontrunner to take over the top post.

Sources said Siddaramaiah hinted during discussions that Shivakumar may succeed him, potentially bringing clarity to months of political uncertainty within the party.
Congress leaders reacted cautiously to the developments, describing Siddaramaiah as a senior and respected leader who had provided “good governance” during his tenure.
Party leaders also said encouraging new leadership and giving opportunities to younger leaders would be a positive move for the Congress ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, celebrations erupted among Shivakumar’s supporters across parts of Karnataka. Special prayers were reportedly offered at several temples by his supporters, expressing hope that he would soon assume office as the next Chief Minister.
