Bengaluru: Ending days of speculation over the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, the party has officially scheduled the crucial gathering for Saturday at 4 pm in the conference hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
The meeting will be held after senior Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar return from New Delhi. Party secretary Allam Prabhu, in a statement, directed all MLAs currently in Delhi to return to Bengaluru immediately for the meeting.
Sources in the Karnataka Congress said all legislators have also been instructed by the KPCC office to remain in Bengaluru ahead of the high-stakes CLP meeting, where the leader of the legislature party is expected to be formally elected.
Senior AICC leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and KC Venugopal are likely to attend the meeting. Party insiders indicated that, instead of a formal election, the Congress high command may directly announce its choice for the next chief minister, similar to the process followed earlier during Siddaramaiah’s selection.
The meeting is also expected to pave the way for the announcement of the swearing-in ceremony date for the next chief minister of Karnataka.
