Bengaluru: Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G has directed officials to issue property tax demand notices to all defaulters within 15 days as part of efforts to achieve 100% tax collection.

At a revenue department review meeting, the commissioner instructed officials to prepare ward-wise lists of defaulters and ensure that notices are served to every pending taxpayer within the stipulated deadline.

He also directed officials to conduct field inspections to identify residential properties being used for commercial purposes and revise their property tax assessments wherever necessary.

The commissioner warned of strict action, including sealing of properties, against owners who fail to clear dues despite receiving demand notices. Revenue officials were also asked to visit property owners personally and persuade them to pay outstanding taxes.

Focus on transparency and compliance

Jagadish G cautioned the public against unauthorised property tax collection, stating that only authorised corporation officials and staff were permitted to collect taxes. Citizens were advised to use official payment channels.

He also instructed officials to maintain separate records for every commercial building, including property tax assessments, revisions and payment details, to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, Khata Melas will resume from October 31 to facilitate faster delivery of revenue-related services and resolve citizens’ khata-related issues on the spot.

The commissioner stressed the need for coordinated efforts, regular monitoring and transparency to achieve the corporation’s 100% property tax collection target.
