Florida: Nine people were killed after a private jet crashed and exploded in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, officials said.
The Learjet 60 was travelling from Texas to the Bahamas when it crashed in the Greenacres area around 12.50 pm. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people on board died.
Preliminary reports indicated that adverse weather, possible ice accumulation and severe turbulence may have affected the aircraft. The pilot had reportedly declared an emergency and issued a Mayday call before the crash.
Around 600 people in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said no one on the ground was injured.
