Shivamogga (Karnataka): Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra has demanded a high-level inquiry and compensation for farmers after officials allegedly cut down arecanut trees, cultivated for nearly 15 years, in Tevarateppa village of Anavatti hobli in Soraba taluk.

Expressing concern over the incident, Raghavendra said the trees were a major source of livelihood for the affected farmers and their removal without prior notice had caused significant financial losses.

He joined a protest organised by the BJP’s Soraba unit to express solidarity with the farmers. Former minister Haratalu Halappa, taluk BJP president Prakash, party workers and local farmers also participated in the protest.

Raghavendra demanded an impartial investigation into the circumstances that led to the removal of the trees. He also urged the authorities to assess the losses and provide appropriate compensation to the affected farmers.

He said the interests and livelihoods of farmers must be protected and called for accountability in the matter.
