PAC Conference Calls for Time-Bound Action on CAG Audit Reports
Thiruvananthapuram: The conference of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairpersons from Parliament and state legislatures has adopted a resolution calling for stronger financial oversight and time-bound action on audit findings.
Congress leader K C Venugopal said accountability should continue beyond the submission of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports until all identified irregularities are addressed and public funds properly accounted for.
The resolution calls for ensuring that government funds are used only for their sanctioned purposes and proposes a common digital platform for PACs across states and Union Territories to share best practices.

It also recommends fixed timelines for governments to report action taken on audit findings and PAC recommendations. The conference proposed introducing audit-tracking systems similar to Parliament’s Audit Para Monitoring System in every state and Union Territory.
Other recommendations include specialised training for PAC members and secretariat staff, more frequent meetings and sub-committees to clear pending audit paragraphs.
The resolution also calls for closer coordination with the CAG and the use of forensic tools to identify high-risk areas before they develop into major financial irregularities.
Venugopal said the measures were intended to strengthen legislative oversight and ensure that taxpayers’ money was spent responsibly, with accountability for any lapses.
