Bengaluru: In a bid to tackle the growing menace of illegal parking on city roads, the Greater Bengaluru Authority will resume towing operations from next week, targeting vehicles parked in violation of traffic rules.

The authority said three new towing vehicles have been inducted for deployment in the Jayanagar zone under the Bangalore South Municipal Corporation. The move is aimed at discouraging indiscriminate parking and easing congestion on major roads.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, the authority said strict enforcement would begin in the Jayanagar zone before being expanded to other areas if required.

On Saturday, Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao and Bangalore South Municipal Corporation Commissioner K. N. Ramesh inspected the newly acquired towing vehicles.

Officials said the initiative is intended to reduce traffic bottlenecks, improve pedestrian safety and ensure stricter compliance with parking regulations across the city.

The towing vehicles have already obtained fitness certificates from the transport department and will soon be handed over to the traffic police. Once deployed, action will be initiated against vehicles parked illegally on key roads and public spaces, the authority said.

The renewed crackdown comes amid mounting complaints about traffic congestion caused by unauthorized parking in several parts of Bengaluru.
