BJP MP Tejaswi Surya files PIL against Bengaluru Tunnel Project
Bengaluru: BJP MP Tejaswi Surya has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Karnataka High Court challenging the proposed North-South Tunnel Road Project in Bengaluru.
Sharing the development on social media, the Bengaluru South MP said the petition was filed on Monday and has been listed for hearing on July 6.
“I had sought time from the Hon’ble Chief Justice, as the matter was unlikely to be taken up during the day’s proceedings. The hearing has now been scheduled for July 6, 2026,” Surya said.

The PIL comes a day after Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the tunnel road project between Mekhri Circle and Hebbal. The 2.5-kilometre stretch is aimed at easing traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest corridors.
The Chief Minister had announced that no toll would be collected on the tunnel road and that the project would be executed by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) using its own resources.
Describing Hebbal as a key gateway to Bengaluru, Shivakumar had said the tunnel project is part of the government’s long-term infrastructure vision designed to meet the city’s transportation needs for the next 50 years.
The Karnataka High Court is expected to take up the PIL for hearing on July 6.
