PM Modi Announces IIM Bangalore Campus in Indonesia to Benefit ASEAN Students
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) will establish its first international campus in Indonesia, a move aimed at expanding India’s global education footprint and benefiting students across the ASEAN region.
The announcement was made during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Indonesia in a joint statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The proposed campus will be set up at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang, Indonesia.
The new campus will become IIM Bangalore’s first overseas campus, strengthening academic cooperation between India and Indonesia while advancing the internationalisation of India’s higher education system in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The curriculum will focus on five emerging areas of global importance—Global Supply Chains, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Climate and Sustainability, and Healthcare Management. Students will also benefit from interactions with industry leaders, renowned academicians and global experts.
The project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, IIM Bangalore will offer Executive Education Programmes for senior executives, business leaders and public sector professionals. Based on its success over the first two years, the second phase will introduce degree-granting management programmes.

The campus will primarily cater to Indonesian students while also attracting learners from other Southeast Asian countries. Participants will have opportunities to visit the IIM Bangalore campus in India through short academic immersion programmes to gain exposure to India’s innovation and business ecosystem.
The initiative will be implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama (PT IGT), the managing and development entity of the Singhasari SEZ.
The government said the initiative will further strengthen India-Indonesia ties, enhance educational cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region and position India as a leading provider of high-quality, affordable higher education for the Global South.
