US-Iran conflict deepens amid fresh airstrikes, Strait of Hormuz concerns

Tehran: The United States carried out another round of airstrikes on Iranian military targets overnight, marking the 13th consecutive night of operations, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), as tensions in the Middle East continued to escalate.

CENTCOM said the strikes targeted military command-and-control facilities, drone storage sites, communication networks, coastal surveillance systems and maritime operations infrastructure. The US military said the operation was intended to reduce what it described as threats posed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to commercial shipping in the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by reiterating that it exercises control over the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that safe passage through the strategic waterway would not be possible without coordination with Tehran. The claim could not be independently verified.

Iranian media reported explosions in several locations, including Qeshm Island, Ahvaz, Andimeshk, Omidiyeh and Bandar Abbas, following the strikes. Reports also said two civilians were injured after a residential area in Bandar Abbas was hit. The extent of the damage has not been independently confirmed.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face a major military response if it carried out further attacks on US allies. In a post on social media, Trump also said compensation for damage to commercial vessels and cargo allegedly caused by Iranian attacks would be drawn from Iranian assets under US control.

The latest developments have heightened concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, raising fears of potential disruptions to energy supplies and international maritime trade. Governments and markets are closely monitoring the situation as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict continue.
