NHAI expands digital FASTag local pass facility to 121 toll plazas across India

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its digital FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible commuters to apply for monthly passes online without visiting toll plazas or submitting documents manually.

The facility, aimed at making highway travel more convenient and transparent, is available through the Rajmargyatra mobile app.

Residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the pass. Once approved, the monthly Local Pass allows eligible commuters unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable rules.

The facility was first launched in July 2026 at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II. Following the initial rollout, NHAI has now extended it to more than 120 toll plazas and plans to cover additional plazas in the coming months.

Previously, commuters had to visit toll plazas in person and submit documents proving their residential address and other eligibility criteria.

The digital system uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to verify the applicant’s residential address, vehicle details and linked FASTag.

NHAI also uses GIS-based verification to determine whether the applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20-km radius of the toll plaza.

The technology-driven process eliminates manual documentation and physical verification, while reducing human intervention and improving transparency and accuracy.

Commuters can check the list of eligible toll plazas and apply for the facility through the Rajmargyatra Local Pass portal.

NHAI said the expansion of the digital Local Pass facility is part of the government’s broader Digital India and Ease of Living initiatives, aimed at providing more seamless, citizen-centric services on the National Highway network.
