Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has registered a resounding victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, decisively defeating the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and marking a major political shift in the state.
The Congress-led alliance secured a commanding 102 seats in the 140-member Assembly, comfortably crossing the majority mark and returning to power after a decade. The Indian National Congress alone won 63 seats, playing a pivotal role in the alliance’s landslide win.
In contrast, the CPI(M)-led LDF was reduced to just 35 seats, suffering losses across several of its traditional strongholds. The defeat of as many as 21 ministers from the outgoing government has emerged as a key highlight of the verdict.
Political analysts say the victory reflects a strong anti-incumbency wave and an effective campaign led by Leader of Opposition V. D. Satheesan, whose statewide outreach appears to have resonated with voters.
This is the UDF’s best performance in over two decades, surpassing even its 2001 tally, and signals a decisive mandate for change in Kerala.
